VET

Vocational Education and Training.

This is study and/or practical training that develops the skills and knowledge that people need for employment.

Vocational education and training is 'education and training for work'. It exists to develop and recognise the competencies or skills of learners.

The VET sector is part of the education system. The education system consists of:

  • schools sector,
  • VET sector
  • the higher education sector,
  • and the adult and community education sector.

It is possible for a person to have what they have learned in one sector recognised in another sector.

The VET sector includes the following VET providers:

  • secondary schools,
  • the TAFE (technical and further education) system,
  • private colleges and institutions, and
  • businesses that provide on-the-job training for their employees,
  • as well as organisations that ensure the needs of industry and government are addressed, design courses or training programs, conduct assessments, or manage apprenticeships and traineeships.

Video display unit

A video display unit  (VDU) is any device that displays changing images (video).

Well known as computer monitors, types also inlcude television and video monitors.

Modern VDUs are now flat screen liquid crystal displays (LCD) or light emitting diode (LED) types and many bulky cathode ray tube (CRT) types are still in existance.

 

Vital

In signalling, the attribute vital has a special meaning: Where incorrect operation or failure may lead to personal injury or to damage of property or equipment.

Vital equipment includes signals, points, track circuits, train stops, etc.

Conversely, equipment with non-vital attributes should not cause injury or damage if they fail or are used incorrectly.
